Canes Rising: Dire Situation

This team disgusts me. With different guys stepping up every game and a decent effort we alwaysw fall short. Why?

1- Lance Hurdle is the worst point guard in the ACC. He's last among starting ACC point guards in assists and is near the top in turnovers. He lacks common basketball sense and likes to pop from outside.

2- Jack McClinton is a ball hog whose athleticism is limited and who cannot create his own shot. Yet he seems to not play with his team mates. He's impatient and does not let them set screens for him or use dribble penetration to set up anyone else.

3- Dwayne Collins would be an all american candidate if he played somewhere else. Our coaching staff has proven for five years they have no clue how to use big men, and time and time again we rely too much on jum shots and our guards. Since Haith took over we have never ranked higher than 9th in the conference in team assists. Make whayever excuse you would like but that is coaching.

For our current level of talent, the results are unacceptable. If people poured praise on Haith last season, turnabout is fair play. He's wasting athelticism and outstanding role players this year with no offensive rythemn or system.

    Miami Basketball SUCKS!

We've always know that's because it's always been true.

Even in down years, Football has always been better than Basketball.

Why some people insist on continuing to waste time on a sport we can never be good in is foolish.

NSD is next week! The Canes are cleaning up, and a Dynasty is being rebuilt.

With Whipple coming in and Randy taking back over the D, we are the favorites to win the ACC in 2009.

We can win the MNC in 2010!

Get back to covering what people care about and you'll generate more traffic here. That's my friendly advice for the day.

I'm so glad UM basketball is sucking up the joint.

Maybe now queen donna will drop her pipe dream of basketball competitiveness and stick with football the sport that made the "U."

When we won football title #1 we did not even have a basketball program!

I wish it were still that way. Where is the recruiting coverage on this so-called Canes site?

Honestly right now Haith, has to settle the guards down. Jack feels he has to shoot us out of every hole we are in and thus makes some horrible mistakes. Besides he's simply stopped playing defense.

Hurdle is equally bad. Would Rios have made a difference? Doubtful. I think this team peaked with limited athletic ability last year.

Dews is a guy with athletic ability but his head has been somewhere else. As much as you may dog him Kartik he is the only guy who can save our season from here on out.

    1. Point guard play or lack there of (Lance Hurdle just can't get it done)
    2. Rebounding - something that happens when a player misses a shot - we are absolutely awful at this.
    3. Perimeter Defense, again or lack there of - we give Up way too many easy Uncontested open & I mean wide open shots.
    4. Shoot way to many 3's from outside before going inside oUt - we have some of the best bigs in the conference so let's Use them.
    5. Speaking of our bigs - where in the world have they gone - someone check on the back of the milk cartons for them.

We have to get this thing turned around NOW or we will be watching teams that we are better than playing come March.

The problem is coaching. Haith has lost this team. period. They are no longer responding to him or playing for him. period. These players have absolutely stopped playing. It is inexcusable to see what has happened when they should have easily had 2-3 wins in the last 5 losses. Haith has lost his team. Period.

This team is dysfunctional offensively. Haith's offense only is in flow when McClinton lights it up. The team doesn't have a clue how to break a press or run a half court offense. Haith is to blame for this ugly team.

I'm just curious on how it's Haith's fault we have seniors who have no idea how to play against a zone..If you're a senior, you should know that just from experience, you shouldn't need a coach to tell you "Get it inside, and then work it out, force the zone to collapse inside, leading to open shots"..You shouldn't need a coach to tell you "don't leave shooters wide open, especially if they are making shots" You shouldn't need a coach to tell you "If other people are making shots, and you're not, let the other people shoot, and you play D, and try to create what you can in transition"...That's just having a basketball IQ..I noticed that guys like Asbury and Thomas don't have those issues, and the last time I checked, Haith is coaching them too..

And, about the "Haith doesn't use big men correctly"..Name the last consistant, significant big man we've had..I'm waiting...You're going to be going far back into the program, way before Haith was here..Haith has had to work with guys like Will Frisby, Anthony King and DC..DC is the only one who actually has the tools to be dominant..Frisby wouldn't bang inside, King got soft once he discovered the midrange jumper, and guys like McGowan just don't have the ability to finish consistently..Before this spurt of dominance from DC, he was even inconsistent, and somewhat soft at times..But, then again..It's Miami fans we're talking about, it's always on the coaches, the players are never held responsible for things they should know..

Oh, and to all the basketball haters..If you don't like the coverage, go somewhere else..NSD is just a day in which teenagers sign a piece of paper that says which college they will end up at..It's not a damn event, contrary to what all the leeches over at Scout, Rivals and the other services will tell you...The fact that a bunch of grown men are all around, beating their meat over a HS kid who may or may not sign with a school is pathetic, to say the least. It's funny that all of you have this beef against Shalala, but then again..You don't have degrees from the University of Miami, so it's not like people like me give a damn about your ignorant rants.

Our big men have bad footwork and miss too many point blank shots. That's been a problem for years.

I'm not sure what Haith can do right now about this team. Counting on Jack getting hot isn't working this year because in the interim he keeps shooting blanks.

We have bad guard play, that's the bottom line. No toughness of defense, and I saw four different times in the Maryland game where McClinton either lost his man or didn't pick up a man in the zone. If that's the sort of defending you are going to get from your so-called best player then the team is in serious trouble.

Again, I agree with Nate Skinner. What can Haith do about that?
