Canes Rising: Miami-Florida Southern Thoughts

Where is McGowan from? I know he was a transfer.

Rios apparently looked good. I think you are totally over stating Hurdle's importance. I mean Hurdle was a JUCO whereas Eddie was a four star guy. We know who has the better talent based on that.

ACCanes, I hope you aren't being serious, because Hurdle is really that important. Rios just isn't good enough right now to get us running like Hurdle did last season..What makes us a contender is the fact that we can get out and run and get easy baskets in transition, with our athletic big men like Jimmy Graham, and Cyrus McGowan. Rios just isn't strong in that area, and without Hurdle, we only have one ballhandler in Rios, because no one else on the roster is a top level handler. Jack McClinton is a pretty bad ballhandler for a small guard, and I don't want James Dews handling the ball, because his strength is running off of screens and creating plays away from the ball. Rios is a darn good on the ball defender, but he just isn't a running type of PG..He does get us going in the halfcourt game though, but with our strengths, we are a running type of team. When you have athletic big men that can run the floor, you want to use that, because that's a hard thing to defend.

All this Basketball coverage is making me want to quit this site.

Can we please wait until Januaury to talk about Basketball? And please drop the Baseball and Soccer stuff totally.

When people say or think about the "U" it's about one sport only. I realize Basketball is hot right now but please let us not over do it.

James, just because you don't give a damn about the rest of our Athletic Department, doesn't mean we should ignore those other sports. We all love football, but the basketball programs are growing by leaps and bounds, and they have earned the right to get some hype, and some recognition. I'm proud of the fact that my University tries to compete in multiple sports, and we strive for excellence in all of them. If I wanted to attend a one dimensional institution, I would have gone to Duke. There are very few small, private insititutions that attempt to compete in all the revenue sports, we're one of them. I bet you're the same kind of "Fan" that gets mad when the University brags on our academic progress ratings. It's the University of Miami, not the University of Football, so when we have student-athletes competing, we are going to talk about it. It's all about the U, and that U is on the basketball uniforms, the baseball uniforms, and the uniforms of all our student-athletes that compete for us.
